Pentax K200D

Sun Jun 7, 2009, 4:15 PM
I have an English class at a local mall every other Friday. Well, this past Friday I had the class and afterward my husband and I walked around the mall like we usually do and happened to notice the camera shop was having a sale. Looked around and saw a Pentax K200D with a 18-55mm lens on sale for about $500. We had seen the same camera + lens kit for $550 earlier in the week, and decided that if the camera was still there and on sale Sunday we'd get it.

Well we went back on Sunday and it was still there. THEN I noticed it was not just body + 18-55mm lens, but actually body + 18-55mm + 50-200mm! Body and two lenses for $500.

I practically ran to the ATM to get out the money. The guy who checked me out kept complimenting on my Japanese and gave me a guidebook on the camera in Japanese for "reading practice". He also said that as long as I could find the screw mount adapter for it, I could use my old Spotmatic lenses with it, but they didn't have any screw mount adapters in stock.

When we got home I messed around with settings, manual focus, auto focus, RAW, JPG, and a bunch of other things on it. My three deviations from yesterday are some of the results. It's going to take me a while to get used to looking through a viewfinder again, especially one that's not like that in my Spotmatic (I miss my little focus circle), but I'm excited to learn how to work with RAW.
Maybe I'll finally be able to do this idea dealing with vision/sight that I've had in my head for over a year. Just need a tripod now.

Thank you soo much for the fav ^_^ ! you live in japan! i would love to try and live there for awhile and learn the language.
You're welcome!
I love it here. It can be a pain in the ass to pick up the language (10 years of study and I'm still nowhere near fluent) but it's so worth the effort.
wow 10 years and nowhere near being fluent? If youve been learning Japanese for 10 years you must sound great.I did hear learning japanese was difficult but jeeves if its that hard I'm very intimidated. Do a lot of people there speak english?
The basic, everyday stuff isn't that difficult. It's the formal language (the what you use to your boss or superiors at work) that's the hardest and what I still have trouble learning.
If you're in a big city like Tokyo or Osaka, you find a lot of people who speak English. Sadly, I'm not in a big city so there aren't many here who speak English fluently.
ooo that makes sense! I dont even want to think about learning how to write in kanji that must be hard, but I am excited about being able to speak atleast some basic japanese. I'm currently gonna start using one of those cd-rom sets haha

Thanks a bunch for your support! I really appreciate it :highfive:
